RailPros is Honored by ITE for The UDOT Traffic and Saftey Project

RailPros, along with other team participants, was awarded the Utah ITE Project of the Year for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Traffic and Safety Project. The project team included UPRR, UTA, UDOT, Avenue Consultants, and PineTop Engineers. RailPros assisted in writing a new Statewide Railroad Preemption Manual, which includes current industry standards and best practices specific to traffic signal interconnection with the railroad at grade crossings. RailPros developed the UDOT preemption calculation form, using the LADOT and TxDOT preemption calculation forms as a base and adding in significant user enhancements. The team also conducted field reviews at 15 grade crossings throughout the state that were identified as needing potential safety enhancements related to traffic signal preemption. Concept improvement plans and preemption calculations were conducted at many of those locations for UDOT implementation in the near term. Karen Hankinson and Adrian Rodriquez were the key RailPros staff that supported this collaborative effort.

Key project team member, Adrian Rodriquez (4th from the left), accepted the award on behalf of RailPros at the annual conference.

The presentation ceremony was held during the 2017 ITE Utah Annual Conference at the University of Utah and guests included industry leaders from the Utah Department of Transportation, the University of Utah, and engineering firms from across the nation.
