Born from our decades of experience working on operating railroads and the associated right-of-way, RailPros provides expertise to railroads and transportation agencies in the development and updating of internal operating manuals, standard plans, design criteria, and specifications to provide clear and consistent guidance to operators as well as those developing new rail projects.
Program & Project Management
MANUALS, STANDARDS, AND SPECIFICATIONS DEVELOPMENT
GRANT FUNDING ASSISTANCE
Our grant writing and management consulting team are experts in obtaining funding; we have obtained over $150 million from various funding sources.
VEHICLE ACQUISITION ASSISTANCE
When our clients look toward purchasing new vehicles and maintenance equipment, we help them by preparing technical specifications, reviewing and approving submittals, conducting inspections, and assisting with the selection of new vehicle technologies.
To reduce or prevent errors and impacts to budget and schedule, RailPros provides peer and constructability review of engineering service products produced by other firms.
START-UP, TESTING, AND COMMISSIONING
When new rail service is anticipated, we offer assistance with FRA New Starts, regulatory compliance, the selection of operating contractors, vehicle commissioning, system safety programs, system certification, and the development of Operating Rules and SOPs.
Track Engineering and rail alignment engineering and design are the basis for most of our design tasks. We have in-house track engineers with experience and knowledge that is unparalleled in the industry. This high level of experience allows us to leverage our understanding of each client’s specific requirements and needs in streamlining the design process by beginning with the final condition in mind. We fully understand that beginning at the conceptual development phase, design decisions impact safety, constructability, operations during construction, regular operations following construction, and maintenance.
We routinely design and manage the construction of railway structures, including railroad and roadway bridges, buildings, retaining walls, drainage and underground structures, and other structures and foundations.
While our focus is rail, we are also involved with civil work that connects to rail projects, including ADA design, at-grade crossings, utilities, street design, grading and drainage, hydrology and hydraulics, culvert design, and SWPPP preparation and inspection.
Our depth of knowledge and understanding related to traffic engineering and grade crossings has proven valuable to multiple agencies and railroads. Our approach is always holistic in order to understand any existing concerns and then follow best practices in our designs and reviews of traffic signals, signing and striping, and traffic control at grade crossings.
Systems, Communication, and Signals
RailPros is deeply involved in all aspects of Railroad Systems and Signals, including wayside design, crossing design, crossing and signal inspection, As-Builts, and review of contractor work.
From developing Project Study Reports and Alternatives Analyses, to authoring technology comparisons and transit operating plans, RailPros conducts infrastructure needs assessments to plan for future growth of regional rail systems.
