Introduction to Railroad Safety Concepts

Developed for in-plant switching operations this one-day course includes a description of basic track components and geometry, basic locomotive and freight car designations and components (including air brake components and functioning), safe job procedures for the rail environment and basic derailment modes and derailment prevention. This course includes both classroom instruction and a field demonstration.

Freight Car Air Brake Training

This one-day course presents a detailed description of the functioning of the locomotive and freight car air brake system, as well as the inspection and testing of the air brake system by rail crews, prior to equipment movement. This course includes both classroom instruction and a field exercise.

Rules Efficiency Training

Engineering

FRA Track Safety Standards (49 CFR 213)

Designed for individuals responsible for the inspection and maintenance of track, this training will acquaint the student with the Track Safety Standards prescribed by Federal Regulation, as well as the means to detect deviations from these standards and prescribe appropriate remedial action to correct or safely compensate for these deviations. This course includes both classroom instruction and field exercises. RailPros offers both an initial training program for those new to the role, as well as refresher training for veteran inspectors.

FRA Continuous Welded Rail (49 CFR 214.119)

Designed for individuals responsible for the inspection and maintenance of track and requiring an understanding of general procedures for safely installing, adjusting, inspecting and maintaining CWR to help railroads remain in compliance and more importantly help build and maintain a safer track infrastructure.

FRA Roadway Worker Protection (49 CFR 214 Part A & C)

Designed for individuals performing track construction and maintenance (Roadway Workers), this training meets the requirements prescribed by Federal Regulation, for initial and recurrent training on the on-track safety rules and procedures that these individuals are required to follow. RailPros is approved to instruct RWP for the following properties: CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern (NS), Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS), Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) and Union Pacific. RailPros also offers several other RWP programs in an e-learning format.

FRA Bridge Worker Fall Protection (49 CFR 214 Part B)

Designed for individuals performing work on railroad bridges, this training familiarizes the student with the minimum safety rules required by Federal Regulation for fall protection systems and their application.

FRA Roadway Maintenance Machines (49 CFR 214 Part D)

Designed for individuals of railroads and contractors whom operate Roadway Maintenance Machines and Hi- Rail Vehicles, addressing what every operator of any roadway maintenance machine or hi-rail vehicle must know to ensure his or her equipment complies per regulation. This course also addresses operating roadway maintenance machines equipped with cranes, qualifying mobile crane machine operators with the basic awareness required to operate standard crane-equipped roadway machines.

Train, Engine, & Yard Service Training

RailPros can provide experienced instructors to teach fundamental railroad operating skills including Safety Rules, Operating Rules, Air Brake & Train Handling Rules and Hazardous Materials Rules. With over 5,000 man-days of experience in new hire training our instructors can use a client’s existing curriculum or RailPros can assist in curriculum development.

Locomotive Engineer Training (49 CFR 240)

RailPros instructors have extensive field and classroom experience as Certified Locomotive Engineers, DSLE’s and Engineer Instructors and have provided over 500 man-days of training for our clients. They are qualified on the requirements of Part 240 and, in addition to training, can evaluate Engineer performance and prescribe appropriate remedial activity for performance failures.

Remote Control Locomotive Operator Training (49 CFR 240)

With over 12,000 man-days of RCL experience, RWT has assisted clients in developing RCL training programs, in assessing sites for potential conversion from conventional operation to remote control operation, in evaluating and implementing Remote Control Zones and in training and certifying Remote Control Locomotive Operators using the latest RCL technologies.

Mechanical

FRA Freight Car Safety Standards (49 CFR 215)

Designed for individuals responsible for the inspection of freight cars and making compliance determinations, this training will acquaint the student with the freight car safety standards prescribed by Federal Regulation as well as the means to detect deviations from these standards and to determine if the car can be safely moved for repair.

FRA Locomotive Safety Standards (49 CFR 229)

Designed for individuals responsible for the inspection of locomotives and making compliance determinations, this training will acquaint the student with the locomotive safety standards prescribed by Federal Regulation as well as the means to detect deviations from these standards and to determine if the locomotive can safely continue in service.

FRA Railroad Safety Appliance Standards (49 CFR 231)

Designed for individuals responsible for the inspection of freight cars requiring a working knowledge of car and locomotive safety appliances, including hand brakes, sill steps, ladders, handholds, uncoupling levers, etc.

FRA Brake System Safety Standards (49 CFR 232)

Designed to meet the training requirements mandated by Federal Regulation for railroad employees and contractors who perform brake system inspections, tests or maintenance, and includes both classroom and “hands-on” components. Student’s possession of the appropriate skills and knowledge is documented through a written examination and a “hands-on” demonstration.
